Children’s privacy law is having a disorienting growth spurt. Like many a teenager, this body of law now barely resembles what it looked like a couple of years ago. The U.K. and California have enacted Age-Appropriate Design Codes (AADCs) that impose detailed obligations and will impact many more companies than earlier children’s privacy rules. This article delivers observations on changes in children’s privacy law and compliance consequences of the two AADC codes from privacy specialists at the Entertainment Software Ratings Board and Bryan Cave, who spoke to the Cybersecurity Law Report, and at Zoom, ZeniMax and Covington & Burling, who presented at the recent Privacy+Security Forum.
