Fallout and Lessons From Recent Cyber Breaches

A massive ransomware attack timed to coincide with the U.S. July 4th holiday weekend has reportedly affected software used by thousands of managed service providers and IT teams around the world. This most recent attack, potentially the largest ransomware attack ever, along with other recent major cyber attacks, such as Solar Winds and Colonial Pipeline, highlight the vulnerability of supply chains and critical infrastructure. This spring, with the goal of strengthening both the government’s and private sector’s cybersecurity, the NSA, FBI and CISA issued a joint advisory and President Biden signed an Executive Order. In this retrospective issue, we showcase articles that analyzed these measures, and provided lessons on the prevention, detection and mitigation of cyber incidents.
