Since it was enacted in March 2018, the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act has been the subject of controversy and confusion and, one year in, the DOJ has launched a campaign to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of its purpose and operation. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard Downing recently spoke at the Academy of European Law Conference in Germany to further this effort.
